Brief
Our client approached us to provide insight into the business and political environment within a South American country since the late 1990s, as well as identifying how several government contracts were awarded in the energy sector during this period.
Approach
We undertook extensive public record research, including media research and accessing publicly available government records. We also leveraged our extensive network of in-country sources to provide insight on how the government’s procurement process worked in the country during the time period of interest.
Findings
Our analysis evidenced the widespread practices of irregular contracting and procurement of the government since the late 1990s, mapping out the political and business context across different administrations.
Impact
Due to the large potential corruption risk posed by how government contracts were awarded in the country, our client decided to not go ahead with their planned transaction.
