An international energy company tasked us to assess the reputation and political exposure of a potential partner in Angola to ensure compliance with the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act and other relevant anti-corruption legislation.

Approach

We conducted comprehensive public record research, engaged our local network of sources for insights, and reviewed the partner’s ownership structure.

Findings

Our extensive experience of undertaking projects in Angola allowed us to uncover indirect links between the partner and the country’s political elite. However, we assessed that these links were neither strong nor direct. In addition, our research and local sources confirmed that the company and its owner had a positive reputation overall.

Impact

Our due diligence assessment equipped our client with the necessary insight to make an informed decision when choosing to go ahead with the partnership. Our client’s collaboration with the Angolan partner has continued successfully to date.
